On Wednesday 24th April, Year 9 students attended the Next Gen Leaders Celebration Event at the Asda MCE in Leeds. Two teams presented their work on the social action projects they have been developing this year. Team "Helping Hands" are working on a project, in which they recycle fabric to make blankets. These will be sold to raise funds to donate vouchers to people suffering from fuel poverty. Team 'Growing Minds' have plans to create a community garden, which will be a calm welcoming space but also provide fresh vegetables that can be donated to the local foodbank. Both teams set up display stands and talked to judges and other 'changemakers' about their journey so far and their future plans. Team 'Helping Hands' won two awards at the event; the Community Health Award and the 'Changemakers Choice,' which was voted for by other participants from fifteen local schools.
