Success at The Cramer Awards

Congratulations to Nelson Adewale who came out on top this weekend in the Junior Section of The Cramer Awards - Yorkshire Heat.

Open to young people from all backgrounds and faiths aged 11 – 18, competitors recite passages of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. Nelson chose the Readings for the Second Sunday after Epiphany, and was commended for his clear and engaging reading style that held the interest of the listeners really well. Nelson was one of 18 young people participated in the heat, held at St Margaret's Parish Church in Ilkley on Saturday 14 October.

Nelson said "It was a new and different experience because I have never spoken to a large audience before. I was nervous in the beginning but I became braver throughout. I am very happy and proud that I won and I am very much looking forward to going to London as I have never been." Nelson will now move forward to participate in the national final at Hampton Court Palace on Saturday 24 February 2024.

Nelson is pictured receiving his certificate and cash prize of £50 with, from left to right, Fr Alex Crawford - vicar of St Margaret's Parish Church Ilkley, Fr David Hope - Baron Hope of Thornes, and Nigel Pearson - Prayer Book Society, Chester Branch.
